Starting from the 16th century, the banks of canals and rivers that could easily be reached from Venice were lined with luxurious summer residences. The Brenta Canal, along with other watercourses, linked Venice and Padua and became very fashionable, a delightful place and the perfect extension of Venice’s Grand Canal. More than seventy luxurious villas sprang up there, along with fifty others in the nearby territory of Mirano.
Great architects like Palladio, Scamozzi and Frigimelica built summer residence for members of the Venetian nobility who spent their “holidays” on the mainland in a veritable Arcadia of knights and ladies who played, sang, fell in love and told stories.
Today, a visit to the Riviera del Brenta and the Mirano area is the perfect opportunity to discover a varied territory, not only rich in history and culture but also charged with emotions.
Sleep in the midst of history, discover the Villas and ancient residences by foot, on a bicycle or by boat; swim, play tennis or golf.
Board one of the boats that daily sail the waters of the Brenta and listen to the on-board guides as they reveal the history, culture and art of the Villas that can be seen from the river.
And, at sunset, relax with a spritz or a fragrant glass of wine while listening to the gurgling of the water.

It is impossible not to call to mind the great engravers, such as Coronelli, Volkamer and Costa, or the leading 18th century Venetian landscape painters, the vedutisti who portrayed these places, such as Canaletto, Guardi and Cimaroli, but also sublime painters like Tiepolo or Arcadian artists like Zais.
It is natural to daydream about times gone by, about the customs and practices that we find in the evocative artworks that have come down to us.
